Pinus densiflora 'Oculus Draconis'
Dragon's Eye Japanese Red Pine
Description
'Oculus Draconis' is an eye-catching, medium-sized tree, which in general, is very similar to the species. However, when viewed from above, a yellow banding pattern to the needle gives the 'Dragon's Eye' effect. Both the pruning it receives when young, as well as maturity, increases the appearance of the dragon's eye. When the candles are pruned at its juvenile stage, this promotes more branch tips and accentuates the variegated effect. For a different look, 'Oculus Draconis' can also be sheared into a pom pom formation.

Pinus koraiensis 'Oculis Draconis'
Dragon Eye Korean Pine
Description
This is the Korean form of the Dragon's Eye Pine. Its yellow banding on the needles is most apparent on established trees in colder climates. Though the 'Dragon Eye' selection of koraiensis is not as striking as with other Pinus species, it remains a favorite among customers. In general, it has the same soft effect as the species and has the added benefit of long, green needles that radiate from the stems and then twist downward, giving the tree a weeping look. It grows 7' tall by 4' wide in 10 years.

Pinus mugo 'Gnom'
Gnom Mugo Pine
Description
Some consider this the best mugo Pine, and it is very frequently requested by our customers. Its deep, jade green needles and very tight growth habit are very desirable and are what stood out to growers when it was introduced 50 years ago in Holland. 'Gnom' is slow growing with ornamental winter buds that are long and resinous. After ten years of growth, one can expect a globose plant approximately three feet in diameter. While we do grow it in its bush form, we find that mugo 'Gnom' has been most popular for us grafted on two-foot standards.

Pinus mugo 'Prostrata'
Prostrata Mugo Pine
Description
Contrary to the common globose growth habit of both wild and cultivated Pinus mugo, 'Prostrata' grows completely flat. This procumbent habit, paired with the round, brown cones it produces, makes this a very distinctive selection of the Mugo Pine. 'Prostrata' is also somewhat slow-growing, as a ten-year-old plant will be dense, but only two feet tall by six feet in diameter. Zone 2 - 7

Pinus nigra 'Arnold Sentinel'
Arnold's Sentinel Austrian Pine
Description
At a mature height of 20-30', this specimen will only be 6-8' wide. Branching looks similar to the Pinus sylvestris 'Fastigiata' as its dark green needles grow in a strong upright habit. Using this as a strong vertical accent where space is limited is its best attribute. 'Arnold's Sentinel' tolerates heat and drought if planted in heavy alkaline soils, making it a valuable specimen for coastal landscapes.

Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green'
Oregon Green Austrian Pine
Description
Founded right here in Oregon, this upright tree may reach 8-10' in ten years. Because of their stiffness, the needle drop is less in the summer season. Bright white candles in the spring jump out against the dark green needles, much like the 'Thunderhead' Pine. 'Oregon Green' can shine alone or plant several for a small screen. Zone 5
