Pinus parviflora 'Ogon-janome'
Dragon's Eye Japanese White Pine
Description
'Ogon janome' is a compact, slow-growing variegated Japanese pine. The needle color is blue-green with bands of yellow. When viewed from the branch tips, the yellow pattern resembles an eye. Ogon is Japanese for gold, and janome is snake (or dragon's) eye. However, too much shade results in a leggy plant with less color. This plant is still considered rare in the trade, as it takes growers a long time to get it to market size.
